Do you have self esteem issues as a mom? I often struggle to keep my parenting insecurities in check. It feels like a constant internal struggle for my daughter’s approval. I swear she loves my husband more.
When she wants someone else more than me, the ugly jealousy monster arrives on the scene.
This has all been exacerbated by my weekly work commute since moving to Key Largo in the Florida Keys this year.
Your Self Esteem Issues Your Parenting Skills – How Do You Make Them Work Together?
I am aware that the intensity of my insecurity is insanity. My self esteem issues as young mom are a work in progress. Of course I know the bond between her and daddy is special and beautiful. However, this discomfort as a mother is sometimes very difficult to shake.

Miss L’s Special Pats and Rubs
Our daughter attends a local private school where she takes daily naps.
There is one special teacher who has consistently been able to put our kid to sleep. My precocious daughter believes Miss L has a very special technique.
She calls it “the pats and rubs”.
I Tried. Everything.
- For months at evening bed time, I tried my damnedest to replicate Miss L’s pats and rubs.
- My kid informed me every time I was doing it wrong.
- Why doesn’t my kid approve of me?
- Will I be ever good enough?!
- How do I stop comparing myself to Miss L?
Suddenly, one night, it dawned on me.
Screw Miss L’s Way and My Self Esteem Issues as a Mom – I’m doing this the True Mommy Way!
I took my self worth back and told the tiny human to take it or leave it.
When I tried to be like someone else, I always fell short. As I started to embrace my unique self, I won.

The Prize? Inner Peace. Period.
The prize was inner peace and a less whiny child.
Anyway, I’ve faced this life lesson before but seem to have a short memory.
It’s great to learn from others; but, at the end of the day I need to integrate what I learn with who I am.

Of course it’s scary to risk rejection. But it’s much scarier to forfeit my identity and let my self esteem issues dictate my parenting skills!
