Most of us are powerfully influenced by other people. It can be challenging to let go of what other people believe about you. It is time to release any negative influences on your beliefs. These influences may be internal external. I encourage you to explore your true self and celebrate who you are.
If you are living your life according to someone else’s beliefs, you are robbing the world. If you are diminishing your own beliefs you are not living your purpose. In the words of Dr. Seuss “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is You-er than You.”
Getting to know yourself
Many people are fearful about this process. It may feel overwhelming or just plain confusing. If you need some help getting started, that’s ok! You may need to start by simply admitting to yourself that you need help. Your next step may include a self reflection tool like the book “All About Me”. Additionally, you could practice sharing your beliefs with people you trust that are non-judging.
Think of a topic you are well-versed in. How much time and effort did you put into learning that topic? Have you invested that much time in self-reflection? Just living your life is not equal to being an expert on your life! Understanding ourselves takes learning and practice.
You are not alone
You are not alone. It took quite a bit of effort for me to answer “what do you believe” and reprogram my own mind. I had to face rejection from others and become willing to say “I don’t know”. By learning and embracing new ideas I became more comfortable with myself and others. Drowning out negative thoughts with positive ones became a primary goal. This didn’t happen over night. Be patient with your learning process.
